PROS
  • Powerful Battery Life
  • Bezel-Free Display
  • Comfy View LED-backlit Display
CONS
  • Keyboard can get hot
  • Webcam isn’t great

The Dell XPS 13 is a stunning laptop for many reasons. For those Windows lovers, this is the machine that can go toe to toe with the MacBook Pro.

It’s beautiful 13.3 inch display is a UltraSharp 4K Ultra HD InfinityEdge Touchscreen Display with Intel HD Graphics (3840 x 2160). The display is almost the entire screen as there is little to no bezel on the XPS 13.

It comes with a touchscreen display that is finished off with Corning Gorilla Glass to prevent scratches and cracks, so you can rest easy if it takes a minor fall. If you’re like me and drop almost everything, this will help you rest assured that a small drop won’t hurt your machine.

One of the weird things with this machine is the placement of the webcam – it’s below the display, so if you’re relying on the internal webcam often, this could be a dealbreaker, or at least take some getting used to.

This laptop comes at a great price for what you’re getting (around $850 at time of review). The Surface Pro 6 is ultra slim and lightweight, starting at just 1.7 pounds.

While it comes with the Core i5 processor, it’s still a powerful machine for a portable, on-the-go laptop for creators.

It works great in laptop, tablet or studio mode. You can take handwritten notes, use it as a newspaper replacement while reading the news in the morning. Using OneNote on the Surface is a great experience, as the touchscreen allows for flexibility but also functions as a laptop. If you are using it as a tablet often, I’d also recommend grabbing a Surface Pen as it allows for even more flexibility.

PROS
  • Powerful Battery Life
  • Awesome Gaming Performance
  • Comfy View LED-backlit Display
CONS
  • Screen Surrounded by a Large Bezel.

The Acer Aspire E 15 has been around for a while, but is still one of the most popular laptops being sold. Acer did a really great job with this laptop, as it’s loaded with features, has great the overall performance, and it comes at a reasonable price.

Design

Looking at Acer Aspire E15 from the outside, some might consider it a little bulky as it’s 1.19″ thick. It weighs 5.27 lbs. and the body thickness helps to manage noise and heat efficiently.

As far as ports and connectivity goes, it includes 1x USB 3.1 type C port which offers faster data transfer speeds (up to 5 Gbps), 1 x HDMI with HDCP support, 2 x USB 3.0, 1x USB 2.0, 1 x Ethernet port which supports Gigabit speed and an SD card port. It also comes with an 8X DVD Double-Layer Drive RW and a VGA port for those of you who still use CDs and DVDs.

If that wasn’t enough, the Acer Aspire E15 comes with an optional kit to install an additional SD card and 2.5″ hard drive.

This laptop comes with the latest 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U processor. It has a base speed of 1.6GHz and turbo boost (up to 3.4GHz) compared to the previous models with just 2 cores and 4 threads which still handled much heavy software smoothly without lagging (think the Adobe CC suite).

Its graphics processor is powered by the MX150 and chipset brand- NVIDIA with 2GB GDDR5 memory. If you’re often multitasking and need multiple programs open at once (as a podcaster might), you’ll enjoy the 8GB DDR3L RAM (upgradable to 32GB) which makes switching between programs seamless.

The drive is a 256GB SSD (Solid State Drive) which is generally faster and more reliable than an HDD. Although it has a low storage capacity, the SSD has lots of advantages over the HDD.

Thanks to the Lithium-ion battery, this podcasting machine can run for up to 15 hours, which is necessary for people who want the option to work on-the-go without worrying about being near an outlet.

The Acer Aspire E15 comes with a 15.6 full-HD widescreen LED-lit display that boasts a wide color gamut. You’ll also get clear, bright, sharper text, with good contrast that allows seeing more details with videos and images from the 1920 x 1080-pixel screen resolution.
